Chiefs Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

As the Chiefs returned from their bye week, head coach/offensive coordinator Todd Haley was determined to see his side of the football become more productive.

After seven games, the Chiefs rank 30th offensively with 251.6 yards per game. They’ve scored just 10 touchdowns, none on the ground. They are last in the league in converting third downs (21 percent) and next to last in sacks allowed (27).

Part of the offense’s problems revolves around a lack of talent. They have no big-play receivers, the offensive line has been very shaky and the running game hasn’t gotten on track. But the Chiefs also have been hampered by the decision Haley made two weeks before the start of the regular season when he fired offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

That made the bye week very…

Former starter Derrick Johnson stuck on KC bench (AP)

FILE -- This is a Sept. 20, 2009, file photo showing Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson(notes) during the fourth quarter of an NFL football game against the Oakland Raiders, in Kansas City, Mo. Not only are they 1-6 and coming off a 37-7 rout by San Diego, but running back Larry Johnson is popping off, raising the possibility of deepening player discontent with coach Todd Haley's harsh ways.

Given Derrick Johnson's sweet, humble nature, it's a wonder he ever went out for football, let alone became an All-American linebacker and first-round draft choice. He speaks softly and smiles warmly and never forgets to call his mom. But he's also 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds of lean, bulging muscle.
